Tierra y Mar (Guest House 2)
This guest house is designed as a quiet retreat on the edge of the tropical dry forest. Raised above a discreet garage, the structure opens out into a spacious wooden deck and a serene pool that appear to float among the trees. Surrounded by native vegetation, the space offers privacy, immersion, and open views of the landscape.
The design responds to the site’s climate and terrain. Natural cross-ventilation cools the interiors, while the raised structure protects against ground heat and allows for better airflow. The materials are simple and honest, like local wood, exposed concrete, and natural finishes that blend into the muted tones of the forest. The interior design responds to both the need of beauty and design, and also to practical aspects of living in a tropical country.
From the pool, guests can watch the light shift across the canopy, listen to the sounds of howler monkeys in the distance, or simply rest in the stillness that defines this unique ecosystem. It’s a place where modern comfort meets the quiet rhythm of nature.
